Aspen Snowmass is truly a top destination for families looking to spend their Spring Break skiing and enjoying the snowy Colorado mountains. In addition to the slopes, Aspen Snowmass offers families a laundry list of adventurous, fun activities and signature events. Because Spring Break falls on different weeks throughout the month of March, Aspen Snowmass, the city of Aspen and Snowmass Village schedule a multitude of events to keep everyone in your clan grinning from ear-to-ear.

Let’s dive in.

Aspen Snowmass Snowsports School for Kids

March at Aspen Snowmass is an exceptional time to teach your little ones to ski or snowboard. The days are warmer and the sun shines brightly. Just don’t forget the sunscreen! Aspen Snowmass offers an award-winning snowsports school for children, with home bases at The Treehouse at Snowmass and The Hideout at Buttermilk.

The learning program at The Hideout is designed for ages two to four and five to six. When it’s time to come inside and take a break, the fun doesn’t stop at The Hideout, which features an indoor interactive jungle gym, kid-friendly cafeteria, rentals and ski school check-in. The Treehouse at Snowmass provides a similar facility in Snowmass Base Village, but maybe the preferred option if you’re looking for childcare for children not enrolled in the snowsports school or too young to enter the program. The Treehouse offers state-licensed childcare for infants, toddlers, and children up to age four.

Non-Skiing Activities for the Whole Family

Snow Tubing + Breathtaker Coaster at Snowmass Elk Camp

The young and young at heart can curb their need for speed on one or both of Elk Camp’s winter attractions. Zoom down one of the many, well-lit lanes at Snowmass snow tubing hill. This thrilling activity will have you clamoring for your next joy ride. The one caveat? Kiddos must be 38” tall to ride. One person per tube, please.

Feel the wind in your face and watch the snow-covered trees wiz by on the Breathtaker Alpine Coaster. We mean wind, too. This zippy two-person alpine coaster reaches exciting speeds of 28 MPH, but a hand brake allows you to temper the speeds to your and your kiddos preference.

Krabloonik Dog Sled Experience at Snowmass

If you’re taking a day off the slopes and looking for an exhilarating and unique Snowmass experience, look no further than Krabloonik. For over an hour, dog-powered sleds twist and wind through Snowmass backcountry, not far from the Village of Snowmass. Each sled, which can carry two adults and a small child, is towed by 8-10 Alaskan husky-mix sled dogs and guided by an experienced musher. Krabloonik dogs are born, bred, and trained to run. They love the adventure just as much as you will. Options include a 10 a.m., 12:15 p.m., and 4 p.m. twilight ride.

Ice Skating at Snowmass Base Village

Daily, from noon to 9 p.m., treat the whole brood to FREE ice skating at Snowmass’ Ice Rink, located adjacent to The Collective, which is also worth a pop-in. Both skating and rentals are free, again, that’s free. When it’s time for a break, hot chocolate and other tasty treats are within reach at the nearby vendor cart.

Top Family-Friendly Spring Events in Aspen Snowmass

Ullr Nights’ at Snowmass’ Elk Camp

Every Friday through the end of March, Snowmass’ Elk Camp is aglo in wintery celebrations designed for the whole family. Children will appreciate the s’mores bonfire, activities, including the aforementioned snow tubing and Breathtaker Alpine Coaster, and a climbing wall. Meanwhile, the adults in the family will revel in the awesome live music, specialty drinks, and incredible farm-to-table meal. The starlit (or moonlit) gondola ride to and from Ullr Nights completes this magical evening.

KickAspen

If you have an aspiring terrain park skier or rider in the mix and happen to be in town March 21, 2020, then a visit to downtown Aspen to watch the KickAspen big air competition is a must. Pro- and semi-pro big air and slopestyle skiers and snowboarders descend on Aspen Snowmass for their shot at glory. Typically, this event is held on Little Annie’s run at the base of Aspen Mountain (next to the Silver Queen Gondola Plaza), but the location is TBD at the moment;

CP Burger, Shakes & Skates in Downtown Aspen

Serving specialty burgers, fries, and homemade shakes (also boozy concoctions for the parents), CP Burger is a great spot for classic American comfort food.
