Top Events and Activities This April in Snowmass

There are beach people and there are mountain people, and if you are visiting Snowmass in April, we know exactly what category you fall under. Snow people are happier people, we believe, and because the snow lasts far later in Colorado than in other parts of the world, your vacation days may be spent schussing down the slopes and celebrating après ski when the day comes to an end. The snow on the mountain is deep, soft, and absolutely perfect and because the sun shines brightly on your ski journey, the day will almost feel warm as well. It is hard to explain how cold the snow will feel when you fall and yet how you will need to consider sunscreen on your exposed body parts, because that bright sun will turn you lobster red if you aren’t careful. And so, we won’t say anything more, ending this discussion with an invitation to visit in April and experience the dichotomy yourself!

All Good Things Must Come to an End

As much fun as you will have on the slopes during your April visit, be sure to start your journey before April 20th, as that is scheduled to be the last day of ski season. There are four mountains as Snowmass and they won’t close down all at once, rather, they shut down individually as listed below, with each closing day offering fun and adventures.

Events and Activities This April in Snowmass

Buttermilk, April 6th

The first to shut down the chair lifts, Buttermilk Mountain does so on April 6, but not without a big party to celebrate another fantastic ski season. We’re not completely sure how it started, but closing day is also bacon appreciation day, so you can get bacon donuts, bacon samplers, and a huge selection of bacon everything, ensuring you will have the energy to ski until the very end and to dance the day away as a DJ will be on site spinning the tunes your entire family will enjoy.

Aspen Highlands, April 13

April 13 is the big day for Aspen Highlands, with this mountain encouraging skiers to wear mismatched costumes, to groove along with another DJ (Or will it be the same as the one at Buttermilk? Guess you will have to find out for yourself!) and to stop in the various après ski spots to enjoy specials related to the end of the snowy season.

The Party for Snowmass Begins on April 19 and Ends on April 20

You still have another day for skiing Snowmass as the official end date isn’t until April 20, but on April 19, the party begins! Offering the Elk Camp Surf & Snow Beach Party, featuring DJs, leis, margarita blend bikes, and bubbling hot tubs that add to the experience. Skiers are invited to pond skim, an event that combines a steep slope and an icy pond, with skiers trying to skim across the surface of the pond without falling in the water. Spoiler alert: EVERYONE falls in! On April 20, the final day of the season, there will be music, drink and food specials, and maybe a few tears as everyone will have to wait more than 200 days before the fun begins again!

Aspen Mountain, April 20

We did say four mountains, and although the party will mostly be at Snowmass, Aspen Mountain does close on April 20th as well, inviting guests to wear another crazy costume as a fitting way to say goodbye to the craziness that is ski season in Snowmass!
