Plan a Kid-Friendly Summer Vacation in Snowmass

The simplest adventures can offer the biggest impact and we can’t think of anything more impactful than enjoying an ice cream cone with your kids on a warm summer’s day, with Sundae-Snowmass, 60 Carriage Way Unit 3120-B in Snowmass Village being THE place to cool down! Small batch ice cream made onsite with locally sourced ingredients ensure that parents can feel good about giving into the sugary frostiness of the treat, and the memories you create simply from sharing a cone, will not soon be forgotten.

Lost Forest Adventure Park, Snowmass Village, Open June 21 Through September 28

Getting lost in a plethora of kid-friendly adventures while exploring the Lost Forest Adventure Park is certain to be the highlight of your Colorado getaway for your kids. Offering rope courses, ziplines, and a climbing wall, there is also an alpine coaster, fishing ponds, hiking trails, and a disc golf course, all of which we will talk about in more detail below.

Breathtaker Alpine Coaster, Elk Camp Work Road in Aspen

Alpine coasters, while bearing a resemblance to their roller coaster counterparts, use gravity and the elevation of the land to give thrill seekers their dose of excitement and the Breathtaker Alpine Coaster is sure to be one of your kid’s favorite parts of their vacation experience. Safe, but still managing to reach speeds of up to 28 miles per hour, this 7 to 9 minute adventure offers a quick and fun way to get down the mountain. Drivers to be between 54 inches and 84 inches tall, and if the driver has a passenger, they must be at least 16 years old to take the helm.

Kid-Friendly Summer Vacation in Snowmass

Trout Hook Pond, At the Top of the Elk Camp Gondola

Located next to the Treeline Trial Challenge Course at the top of the Elk Camp Gondola, Trout Hook Pond is not just kid-friendly, it is a free one, but if you want to ride the gondola up to reach the pond, you will have to purchase a sightseeing ticket or package. Fully stocked with trout (Isn’t that a surprise?) you will need to bring your gear, which can be rented from Snowmass Sports, located at 100 Elbert Lane m108, if you didn’t pack your own. A valid fishing license is needed for every fisherperson over the age of 16 and because the water can attract mosquitoes in the summer months, you might want to consider bringing some bug spray along for the adventure.

Elevated Journey

The Elevated Journey hiking trail is located within the Lost Forest, offering several individual trails that will take hikers through pine forests, wildflower meadows, and offer stunning views of the Snowmass landscape. This adventure isn’t the easiest, so it won’t be a great one for families with small children but teens and tweens will adore their time on the mountain, especially if properly prepared. We recommend that hikers bring rain jackets, wear moisture wicking clothing, and the most comfortable hiking shoes they own. Hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen are recommended as well and if you need a map, a trail map can be found on the Aspen Snowmass App or picked up at the ticket office when you buy your sightseeing ticket or package for the gondola.

Aerial Approach Disc Golf

What do you get when you combine frisbees with golf? Disc Golf, of course, and there are two 18-hole courses located at the top of the Elk Camp Gondola, which is where the aerial part of this course comes into play! You can borrow the discs, the only equipment you need, from the Lost Forest Headquarters, and your day of excitement and adventure is sure to shine a little brighter simply because of the game! Follow the rules, starting with the most important one, be respectful, and leave the course cleaner than it was when you arrived!
