Offering a landscape still blanketed with snow, cozy nights spent snuggling in front of a roaring fire, and a natural beauty that will leap out of every picture taken, refreshing your memories of that one year you went to paradise for your spring vacation. Best Outdoor Activities in Snowmass to Enjoy in the Spring

Snowmass Ski Resort isn’t scheduled to close in 2025 until April 20th so if a day or three spent on the slopes sounds like an adventure you can get behind, be sure to schedule your spring vacation before the 20th. There are four mountains in the Aspen Snowmass area, each offering their own vibe and personality, with Snowmass offering the bigger personality, which only makes sense seeing as how Snowmass IS bigger than the other three mountains combined! Love winter, but have never been skiing before, or maybe want to try snowboarding for the first time? Snowmass offers a great ski and snowboard school, providing group and private lessons divided into separate age groups, so no novice adult skier needs to worry about towering above their fellow “classmates” or having to learn the difference between French fries and pizza.

Outdoor Activities in Snowmass

Fly Fishing on the Frying Pan River

Fly fishing isn’t just a summer activity, it is one that can be enjoyed in the spring months as well and while there are many locations in the area that you can participate in the sport, it really is fun to say fly fishing on the Frying Pan River, don’t you think? Designated a Gold Medal Trout River, a river that has consistently shown a certain number of trout per acre, or in other words means your chances of catching your limit are absolutely excellent. Fly fishing is a popular sport year round, but the spring season is actually one of the best times of the year for fishing, doubling your chance of enjoying fish dinners every night of your stay.

Breathtaker Alpine Coaster, Elk Camp Work Road in Aspen

Alpine coasters run on gravity power and offer an exciting outdoor adventure that you get to regulate, reaching a maximum speed of 28 mph, if you decide you want to go that fast. The Breathtaker Alpine Coaster is open daily through April 1st and then is only open on weekends through closing day of ski season, April 20th with tickets selling out early, so be sure to arrive before 1 PM on the days you are riding to ensure you get your opportunity to fly!

A Hike Through Wow

The mountain landscape of Snowmass is one that will take your breath away (even more than the Breathtaker Alpine Coaster!) and may be best enjoyed while hiking along the trails that traverse the countryside. Late spring visitors may enjoy fields full of wildflowers, cool mornings, and warm afternoons (dressing in layers is important), and as you hike along the Smuggler Mountain Trail the views that surround you will take a piece of your heart forever. Those seeking more of a workout, the Smuggler Mountain Trail is only 3 miles and offers only moderate difficulty in comparison with the Ute Trail, a difficult one that is somewhat shorter but offers a gain in elevation of 1700 feet, sure to keep your heart rate up.
