As the end of ski season takes place, we Snowmass, Colorado locals could be sad to be missing out on all that fun snow and cold, but instead, we are already making our plans for the summer, starting with the unofficial kickoff to the season, Memorial Day Weekend. We get excited about the change in weather, landscape, and vibe, and if you are planning a Memorial Day getaway to Snowmass, you will understand everything we just said! This guide to a Memorial Day in Snowmass and your stay in our Timberline Condominium holiday hideaways will ensure that you get to experience everything that makes Snowmass one of the best places in the world to be during this preview to summer holiday.
Plan a 2025 Memorial Day Getaway to Snowmass
Even as the holiday is generally seen as the kickoff to summer, it will still be chilly in the mountains, so be sure to dress in layers, especially for your outdoor adventures! Hiking is popular in May, so pack comfortable and waterproof hiking shoes or boots, sweaters, tee shirts, and heavier jackets; you can peel off each layer as the day warms up, or if it starts to rain, you can stay as dry as possible because your outermost layer should be waterproof as well. And as you hike along trails through a countryside that is just starting to blossom and bloom, the Ditch Trail is a popular moderate hike; be sure to keep your eyes peeled for wildlife, because late May is prime baby birthing season, and if you are lucky, you may spot some cute and cuddly baby animals. Enjoy them from a distance, however, as mama animals will not take kindly to you getting close to their babies, but feel free to take as many pictures as you need!

Wet Your Line
Fishing is a popular activity year round, but in the spring months you don’t have to cut a hole in the ice and sit shivering while waiting for the fish to bite. The Roaring Fork River, just down the road from Snowmass, will be open for fishing after May 15. The Roaring Fork is designated as Gold Medal waters, meaning the trout will be of the highest quality and your dinner will be extra special when you take home your catch of the day to enjoy for the evening meal. If you have never tried flyfishing before, but want to try it, Aspen Flyfishing, located at 555 E Durant Avenue, offers guided trips that will help you develop your skills and fill your cooler with a plethora of tasty fish. March through May is known as the best fishing season in the area, so your luck may be even better simply because of when you chose to wet your line!
Shop the Sales
Now that ski season is over, the shops will REALLY be trying to get your business, offering deals that will delight, especially as this part of the country is not known for being inexpensive. Shop for souvenirs at Snowmass T-Shirt Company, buy yourself some snazzy new sunglasses at Sunglass Panache, or fill your pantry with some gourmet foods purchased from Grain Fine Food. We can’t tell you what the sales will be or which shops will offer the best sales, but isn’t part of the fun of shopping the hunt itself?

Explore the Maroon Bells
Although this could technically fall under the hiking category, the Maroon Bells area of Colorado is so beautiful, it just deserves its own paragraph! The Maroon Bells are two peaks in the Elk Mountains, climbing over 14,000 feet high and anchored by crystal-clear lakes that reflect the mountains beautifully. This natural landmark is a popular one, best reached by the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority, and best explored midweek to enjoy a more peaceful and less crowded experience. There is a wonderful selection of hiking trails that range from easy strolls to moderate hikes, and all offer the reward of the best pictures you will ever take!
