Whether the kids have a break from school, or you all just need a break from the stresses of everyday life, there are family-friendly activities in Snowmass. No matter what time of year, you can find indoor and outdoor activities to please the youngest as well as the oldest member of the family. Pack your days full of as much fun and adventure as you like or slow the pace and laze around at your private vacation rental provided by Timberline Condominiums.

Lost Forest

Located at Elk Camp at Snowmass and tucked in among the area rocks and trees is Lost Forest. The attraction challenges adventure seekers of all ages and skills and is a spring and summertime favorite. You’ll have the opportunity to ride an alpine coaster, zipline, and many biking trails, or challenge yourself and your family on the ropes course and climbing walls. You might also want to cast a line and fish or play one of the two-disc golf courses available there.

Gondola Rides

Another activity with seasonal availability, the Elk Camp (in Snowmass) and Silver Queen (in Aspen) Gondolas run from mid-June to early September. The gondolas are a great way to sightsee and cover a lot of distance, offering panoramic views of the area. Each car on both circuits is completely enclosed. Don’t forget your camera!

Horseback Riding

There are several companies in the area that offer horseback ride experiences for riders of every age and skill level. For the littlest family members, there are pony rides, a petting zoo, fishing, and hourly trail rides daily. There are trail rides of one to four hours in length or book a lunch or dinner trail ride to enjoy a cowboy-style meal, or even an afternoon or late evening ride for a view of the breathtaking Colorado sunset. Add activities in Snowmass like fishing for an extra cost and inquire about multi-day overnight camp adventures into the backcountry.

Skiing

There are four mountains and many slopes to keep you busy and the family. If it’s been a while since you’ve been on the slopes, or it’s the first time for the kids, consider taking a lesson together. Availability is limited, so make sure you call and book your reservation beforehand and make sure to ask for lift tickets.

Hiking

If your visit comes when there’s no snow on the ground, there are plenty of hiking trails in the area. Gather the family, lace up your hiking shoes, and head out. There are many kid-friendly hikes that don’t involve a large change in elevation or trekking through tough terrain. Enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery and look out for wildlife and don’t forget your camera. Add a little education to the hike and bring a guidebook for identifying local plants and animals.

Ice Skating

Trade your hiking or ski boots for ice skates. The Lewis Ice Arena is an indoor facility that is open year-round. There are scheduled public skate times, and with limited availability, you’ll want to make sure the rink is available. The facility offers skate rentals as well as skate sharpening if you have your own gear. You can leave your valuables in your vacation rental at Timberline or ask about renting one of the arena’s lockers.

You can also go ice skating at the Snowmass Village Ice Rink, located at Snowmass Recreation Center. You can enjoy free public skating by reservation only, and they offer two types of time slots: Stick & Puck and Public Skate.

One final spot you can enjoy ice skating is at the Limelight Hotel Snowmass. During the winter they offer a spacious ice rink and skate rentals for you to enjoy this winter pastime with family!
