And because you may not know what all you can do in our mountain town in the summer, we’ve created this guide to how to do August in Snowmass like a local, providing hints, tips, and advice on how to experience a vacation you will never forget.

How to Do August in Snowmass Like a Local

The best way to get to know a place you are visiting is by attending the events that the locals can’t wait to attend themselves, and August offers a couple of different events worth exploring. These events are uniquely Snowmass and will help give you an authentic peek into some of what makes our town special.

Up in the Sky Music Festival, August 8 and 9, Buttermilk Base in Aspen

August starts and ends with music, and the first festival, Up in the Sky Music Festival, offers two days of live performances, with the music echoing throughout the mountains. This is the first year this wonderful festival has occurred, but we are used to music festivals in this area, so this Aspen event does it right. Offering food and beverage vendors as well as merchandise booths, festival bars, and if you buy VIP tickets, entry to the official Up in the Sky After Party, providing an experience you won’t soon forget.

August in Snowmass Like a Local

Snowmass Rodeo, Every Wednesday June 18 Through August 20, 2735 Brush Creek Road

The Old West comes alive again when the Snowmass Rodeo comes to town. Offering cowboys, belt buckles, horses, and roping, this rodeo is sure to be one of your favorite summer activities. The Grand Entry Parade helps to heighten your excitement and the BBQ offered is guaranteed to be the best in the state.

JAS Aspen Snowmass Labor Day Experience, August 29-31, Snowmass Town Park

Ending the month with another music festival, the JAS Aspen Snowmass Labor Day Experience offers some big names, including Imagine Dragons and Lenny Kravitz as performers, ensuring your summer vacay will be one you will never forget. Also offering food and beverage vendors, merchandise and craft vendors, and a fun kid’s corner so the littles won’t be bored, this event is definitely one of our favorite things to experience in August.

Take a Hike

Beautiful weather encourages us to get outside and play and one of the most popular things to do in August in Snowmass, is to take a hike. Find a trail that matches your experience level, with the Maroon Bells Loop being an easy one offering one of the most photographed views in the state and the Capitol Peak via Capitol Ditch Trail being one of the more difficult ones, there is sure to be a trail that offers the Goldilocks vibe of being just right for you! Hiking through grassy meadows, ascending mountain peaks, and passing by crystal-clear lakes in which the views are reflected in the calm waters are just a taste of what you can expect from your hike through the Snowmass countryside. Remember to dress in layers as the day can go from cold to warm to cool again in just a few hours!

Relax with a Couple of Drinks and Some Pub Grub

Sometimes you just want a cold beer and some fried mozzarella strips and Zane’s Tavern, located at 10 Village Square in Snowmass Village, has you covered. This local hot spot isn’t stuffy, isn’t crowded with tourists, and does not served small portions of overpriced and under-flavorful meals. At Zanes guests can feel relaxed, at home, and maybe more than a little surprised at how small the bill really is and if you happen to run across some of our staff, that should tell you how popular this local spot really is.

Our favorite August activity, however, might be doing nothing more than staying home with the family and if you choose to stay home at Timberline Condominiums, you will soon understand the appeal.
