Winter Activities in Snowmass Other Than Skiing

Many people travel to Aspen and Snowmass every year to ski and snowboard, but what most don’t realize is that there are other amazing things to do other than traditional skiing and snowboarding. Be sure to check out some of the following Snowmass winter activities during your next vacation!

Cross Country or Backcountry Skiing

Traditional skiing involves slapping on two skis to your feet and gliding down a steep hill in order to gain momentum. With cross-country or backcountry skiing, you do the same but on more flat ground. Rather than relying on gravity to do most of the work for you, you push and glide your way across the snow. This is more efficient than walking and allows you to see some unique sights. There are several different trails across Aspen and Snowmass to take up this amazing method of travel. One of the best cross-country skiing trails is the Snowmass Golf Course Trail. The Snowmass Golf Course Trail is situated right on the grounds of the Snowmass Golf Course. During the snowy months when the course is not playable, visitors can don a pair of cross-country skis for this beginner trail and learn the basics.

After you feel comfortable on the trail, you can venture off onto the Labrador Lane Trail or onto the larger Aspen Snowmass Nordic Trail System.

Snowmass Base Village Ice Skating

The Collective Snowmass is the entertainment hub of Snowmass Base Village. This amazing entertainment venue features great places to gather, eat, drink, play, learn, and much more. One of the highlights of this district is the free ice skating rink. The Collective houses its many Snowmass winter activities in the large building in the Base Village, but adjacent to the building sits an adorable ice rink. The rink is completely free to use and houses a decorated airstream trailer that offers free ice skate rentals as well. The rink is open daily from noon to nine at night and is the perfect activity to wind down your day of skiing.

Treehouse Kids Adventure Center

The Treehouse Kids’ Adventure Center is a multilevel childcare facility in Snowmass Village that spans over 2,300 square meters of indoor space. This facility was constructed to ensure that the amazing outdoor activities for kids in Snowmass are able to be enjoyed not only in the summer but when the snow blankets the ground. This Colorado-themed playroom has supervised activities for children 8 weeks to 4 years old. Some of the amazing activities include state-licensed childcare for infants and toddlers, fun-loving staff who love to engage with kids, a fully registered nurse. This facility is the first of its kind and combines amazing child care with ski school programs and rentals all under one roof to give families a one-stop shop for their trip full of winter activities in Snowmass.

Winter Activities in Snowmass at the Aspen Art Museum

The new Aspen Art Museum is a non-collecting art museum in Aspen that is committed to providing the public with access to international contemporary art. The museum was founded in 1979 and moved into a new building designed by Japanese architect Shigeru Ban to incorporate the beauty of the Rocky Mountains that surround the area. The museum has rotating temporary exhibits that feature works by the most innovative and contemporary artists. They put together workshops and educational programs for kids and adults to create an experience for the whole family.
