Summer Journey to Snowmass, Colorado

Snowmass, Colorado is probably best known for its snowy slopes and five-star ski resorts, but this stunning destination provides amazing vacation experiences year-round. Snowmass in summer has great activities like biking, hiking, rafting, rodeos and more. If you are looking for an amazing outdoor adventure, look no further for your guide to an unforgettable summer getaway!

Day 1: Scenic Hiking Around Snowmass

Snowmass Village is nestled in the Brush Creek Valley and is surrounded by more than 90 miles of scenic mountain hiking trails that offer endless options to explore. The best place to start is with one of the two-hour naturalist guided walks offered by the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies that leaves from Snowmass Mall. There are multiple different walks depending on what your want to observe, but the Nature Trail and Ice Age Discovery tours offer the best insights into the local flora and fossils that were recently found in the area. These free and take you about 1.5 miles each and take about an hour and a half to complete. Taking these two hikes on day one is the perfect way to kick off your vacation.

Day 2: Mountain Bike Through Snowmass

Mountain biking is one of the common Snowmass summer activities. You can race down the scenic trails that are carved into the slopes. No matter your experience level, there is an option for you. There are paved trails specifically designed for mountain biking, or you can venture out and try one of the more difficult off-road trails. There are several local sporting goods stores that rent equipment by the day or longer so that you can explore on your own time.

Day 3: Whitewater Rafting

Snowmass has several rafting options if you are looking to take a river journey. Many companies offer rafting tours down local rivers that are a once in a lifetime rush. The Roaring Fork River delivers a mixture of both adrenaline pumping rapids and scenic views that ends in an amazing clearing—the perfect spot to enjoy a picnic. This is a must-do activity on your summer trip!

Day 4: Indoor or Outdoor Rock Climbing

Snowmass in summer has multiple ways that visitors can test their climbing skills. The Limelight Snowmass features an indoor rock climbing wall that measures in at a monstruous five stories tall; it’s the largest indoor climbing wall in the entire state! If an outdoor option is more to your liking, you can enjoy a short gondola ride up to Lost Forest. This adventure center features many different activities, including the outdoor Rugged Ascent Climbing Wall.

Day 5: Lost Forest Adventure Center

Speaking of Lost Forest Adventure Center, this is the perfect place to feed your adventurous side. This park features many different activities to enjoy. Along with their rock wall, Lost Forest also features a rope challenge course and an Alpine Coaster, a popular ride in mountain towns. Coaster riders control the hand brakes as they fly down the gravity slide. Enjoy fantastic views and an adrenaline-filled ride all at the same time!

Day 6: Rodeo Snowmass

Every Wednesday night during the summer features a rodeo in Snowmass Village. Guests can don their cowboy attire and head down for some fine barbecue meats and roping contests. Visitors can simply watch the customs or join in on the fun with events like Mutton Bustin’ for Calf Scramble. The Mutton Bustin’ event allows guests to ride and attempt to hold onto a sheep, while the Calf Scramble pits visitors against each other to see who can grab a ribbon off a running calf’s tail. No matter your choice on how to enjoy the rodeo, you are bound to have a great time.

Day 7: Live Movies and Nightlife

For all the beauty and excitement of a day in Snowmass, there are even more exciting things to do at night. On summer nights in Snowmass, visitors should get out and enjoy the town. On Thursday nights visitors can take the Sky Cab, more affectionately known as Skittles, to enjoy a free concert series on the mountainside. On the weekends, there are many different events in Snowmass, like Saturday night movies under the stars. For either of these two events, grab a local bite to eat at The Crepe Shack or Venga Venga before you set out your blanket to enjoy a wonderful night under the stars.
