Hikes in Snowmass

While some travelers head to Snowmass, Colorado for the downhill and slope-side fun others make their way this direction in the summer to explore the best of scenic hiking trails! When the snow melts away, it reveals a maze of paths that traverse dynamic terrain and provide hikers with unsurpassed views and exciting challenges to take on by foot. Whether you’re a novice hiker or someone who has been trekking their way to adventure for a lifetime, Snowmass is a vacation destination with a trail to match your style. Here are a few hikes in Snowmass you’ll want to add to the must-hike list while you’re in town.

East Brush Creek Nature Trail

When you’re looking forward to a leisurely stroll with mild elevation changes and options to admire the scenery along the way, the East Brush Creek Nature Trail is designed for you. Less than a mile long, the East Brush Creek Nature Trail is a well-maintained dirt path that travels along wetlands and also provides a pristine landscape to enjoy blooming wildflowers when you hike in the spring and summer. The trail can be accessed at Brush Creek Road and parking at nearby Town Park Station is simple and convenient. This trail runs along the Snowmass Club Golf Course.

Crater Lake at The Maroon Bells

Those up for a moderately difficult to challenging hiking adventure that comes with plenty of time to step back and soak up the scenery you find yourself in will love the Crater Lake Trek through the Maroon Bells. Just under 3.5 miles, the Crater Lake Trail features a 692-foot ascent that requires a bit of effort without being exhausting. Perhaps considered one of the most iconic hikes in the Snowmass area, the Crater Lake Trail can be accessed at the Maroon Bells Visitor Center and is well marked, providing for sweeping mountain views, encounters with Aspen groves, and of course, the reward of a lake visit when you reach your final destination.

Cross Mountain Trail

Experienced hikers looking for their next challenging hiking adventure in the Snowmass area should set their sights on the Cross Mountain Trail. At just under 3 miles, the Cross Mountain Trail crisscrosses over streams, ski slopes, forests, and meadows and connects Elk Camp with West Snowmass. Take the gondola up to Elk Camp to start your adventure!
