Aspen Mountain, known locally as Ajax, rises directly from downtown Aspen to an astounding 11,212 feet and delivers a thrilling experience geared toward intermediate to advanced skiers. Famous for its steep glades and challenging groomers, Ajax simultaneously boasts stunning views and terrain that will challenge and inspire. With its lively base area and rich history, Aspen Mountain offers a quintessential Aspen Snowmass ski experience.
About Aspen Mountain
Ajax features some of the most challenging terrain in the Aspen Mountain ski area. With zero beginner trails, it’s uniquely designed to push intermediate and expert skiers and snowboarders to reach new heights—literally. This focus on more challenging terrain is especially appealing for skiers who appreciate some separation from the newbies.
Steep glades, legendary bump runs, and impeccably groomed cruisers define the topography at Aspen Mountain. And the recent Hero’s expansion added 153 acres of new terrain, so there’s even more variety to explore. The mountain’s compact layout makes it easy to lap favorite runs while enjoying breathtaking summit views of the Elk Mountains. As the first developed mountain in the area, Aspen Mountain has honed its culture and reputation for years, and remains an iconic destination for skiers craving a classic Colorado adventure without the crowds often found at larger resorts.
