Top Sledding Locations in Aspen Snowmass, Colorado

Aspen and Snowmass are considered to be the pinnacle of skiing and snowboarding destinations. Many flock to this beautiful winter wonderland every year for the best in snow sports. However, many seem to forget what gets us into snow sports in the first place—sledding! Snowmass and the surrounding areas have some of the best sleddings in the country. Here are our top locations to grab your toboggan and ride down in the snow.

Snowmass Sledding at Whoa Nelly Sledding Hill

The “Whoa Nelly” Sledding Hill at Aspen Recreation Center is certainly the best known of Aspen’s sledding hills. Aspen Recreation Center’s Winter Wonderland offers one of the more fun sledding hills in the Roaring Fork Valley. Start lower on the hill for the littles, or let the bigger kids start at the top and fly over the dips and jumps that sledders create throughout the winter season. This amazing sledding hill is the pinnacle for enjoying a great ride in the snow. If you forgot your sled don’t fear as the Aspen Rec Center has sled rentals available right on site for you to rent for the whole day or by the hour. If you don’t necessarily want to sled the entire day away, this amazing location also has other options like ice skating to supplement your Colorado sledding fun.

Meadows at Elk Camp Tubing

While we love sledding because it is free and a great way to burn some energy, we have to admit that snow tubing can be even more exciting. As many ski resorts do, Snowmass offers snow tubing. All you need to do is purchase a lift ticket and then enjoy a lift up the hill. Visitors will soar down one of multiple lanes carved into The Meadows at Elk Camp, with lighting illuminating the runs at night. This is probably the most unique take on a sledding hill as there is access to the runs at night to make for memorable experiences. If you don’t want to enjoy Colorado sledding all day, there is also access to the Winter Alpine Coaster and nighttime events right at the same location.

Snowmass Town Park

Snowmass Town Park is located below the villages and ski resort. There are trails throughout the park with a variety of different sizes of slopes perfect for Snowmass sledding. Likely you will be able to find a size that fits your sense of adventure here. Town Park is the largest flat ground space in Snowmass Village but actually sits below the village, which gives it plenty of areas to sled down. The park has ample parking due to it being the location of many different events throughout the year when there is not any snow on the ground. This sledding location is probably the most diverse in the area as it offers so many different options for you to choose from. If you are going to plan a day trip to Snowmass Village to enjoy the plethora of dining and shopping options, you should take some of your time to slide down these amazing hills.
