Attend Throw Down in the Low Down

Thanksgiving in Aspen Snowmass promises to be a treat, but for those who ski it’s an exceptional experience from start to finish! Head over to Fanny Hill at Snowmass on November 26th between 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm to enjoy watching some incredible downhill enthusiasts put on a show you won’t soon forget. The event is known as Thrown Down in the Low Down and provides free skiers and snowboarders the chance to put their trick skills to the test on a course filled with urban-inspired features! While there are sure to be some prizes on the line, the bragging rights are just as important for this particular event. Entry is free and those observing the slopes will find there’s much to be inspired by with every run.

Be There for Snowmass Opening Day

If you’re the type of Aspen Snowmass holiday traveler that’s very much looking forward to some downhill fun of your own, a Thanksgiving trip here puts you right in the heart and soul of the opening day of ski season! The 2021/2022 season kicks off November 25, 2021 and will officially run through April 17, 2022. There are high hopes for snow, making the moment that much more eventful for Thanksgiving revelers. The Village Express Lift will run on November 25th from 8:30 am until 3:30 pm while the Elk Camp Gondola will be operating between 9:00 am and 3:30pm. Head over to the Snowmass Elk Camp ticket office any time between 8:30 am and 4:30pm that day to get your ski plans and access underway!

Participate in the Aspen Turkey Trot

Thanksgiving across the U.S. is a holiday that focuses heavily on indulging in some fantastic dinner options. That said, those who are traveling to the Aspen Snowmass area this year can also take time to participate in an activity that help burn away those excess calories by signing up for the Aspen Turkey Trot! This athletic event is an annual tradition in the area and will be hosted on November 24th. In its 7th season, the Aspen Turkey Trot continues to be a fun, healthy, and festive way to celebrate the holiday in this part of Colorado. Do keep your eyes on the event calendar in case health protocols make it necessary for this race to transition into a virtual event!

Try the Basalt Gobble Wobble 5K

Keeping in line with traveler health kick options, the Basalt Gobble Wobble 5K is another way to keep fitness top of mind while traveling to Aspen Snowmass this year for Thanksgiving. Hosted annually by Basalt Elementary School, the Basalt Gobble Wobble 5K encourages participants to dress up in their best holiday wear and run for a good cause! Top winners even have an opportunity to win a Thanksgiving pie to enjoy afterward. This 5K can be run or walked whether the event is in-person or hosted virtually. It’s $20 for adults to enter the race and $10 for kids. Families and teams can easily enter the race for $50. Making the event even more exciting is the fact that the first 180 participants to enter are eligible for a race entry gift! The event comes complete with fun raffle prizes and the satisfaction of knowing that proceeds go back into funding educational activities at Basalt Elementary.

Try Nordic Skiing
